According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, collagraphy is defined as follows:
"Like the metal graphic process, collagraphy is an additive method; the printing surface is built up. It is essentially an intaglio method, but it can be combined with relief printing. The printing surface is created by gluing various materials and textures to a support."
Our process here at Collagraphyä is quite similar. We work with photographic layers creating a digitally-designed collage; which is an aesthetic, emotional expression of a person, place or event. Each Collagraphyä collage includes 6 or more of your favorite photographs that capture a "moment" in history. That "moment" might span a day, week, month or year…sometimes even an entire childhood. We ask for as much or as little input as you want to give in order to create the appropriate "mood" for your collage.
You decide which size collage you would like us to create, as well as a few additional factors (landscape or portrait, black or white background, etc.). Keep in mind that we are always willing to do the thinking for you, if you do not want to make any decisions.
Once these decisions are made, either by you or us, you simply upload your photographs* to us using our upload feature. We will then consider each photograph and digitally crop it to fit the theme of your collage. Creation of your collage normally takes less than a week.
Following creation of your collage, we will upload your collage to our website and e-mail you a user name and password to access it for proofing. At that time, you can decide on any changes you would like, submit them in the feedback box, or you can decide you are happy with it as it is. Once you have finalized your collage, tell us how many copies of it you would like and submit payment for it/them at that time. Receipt of your collage(s), depending on its/their size, can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks from the time of finalization by you. We will keep you informed as to the status of your order.
*A word about photographs…
If you have photographs that are already printed, you may mail them to us and we will scan them for you. See our Pricing Page for scanning rates. Hard copy photos will be returned to you along with your completed collage. We can even photograph your event for you, depending on your location and our availability. See our Pricing Page for rates.
Photos downloaded to us should be in the largest resolution .jpeg, .jpg, .bmp, or .gif format possible. Remember - the quality of your collage depends a great deal on the quality of your photographs! All photographs MUST be cleared of copyright restrictions prior to forwarding to Collagraphyä. Suspected copyright-protected photographs may require a copyright release from the photographer before we will use the suspected photos in our products.
Collagraphyä was created by owner and artist, Stacy Llamazales. The concept developed from her desperate need to deal with stacks upon stacks of fantastic candid photographs and countless CD-R's jam-packed with her favorite digital photos. She assembled a photo album and was dissatisfied with its bland rectangles of photographs. She attempted scrapbooking and was left feeling discouraged after spending four hours on just one page. What Stacy really wanted, was to find a way to summarize an event in her life by compiling 6-10 photographs per page in a creative manner, for a reasonable price. She researched and could not find anyone who would do this cheap enough to make it reasonable for her single-income family’s budget.
Prior to deciding to stay at home to raise her babies, Stacy had years of graphic design experience in the corporate advertising world. So, she decided to take on the task of dealing with those piles of photographs. Four years later and following a considerable amount of badgering…well, encouragement…from her closest friends, Collagraphyä opened for business in 2006. It has become her passion to creatively preserve her own history and make it possible for you and your family. Try it for yourself and see how thrilled you are with the end result!
Stacy lives in a suburb northwest of Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband and two boys. When she's not "creatively preserving history", you can find her playing with her family out on the lake or singing in her award-winning women's barbershop quartet.
